Contribution – The Power to Create Change

We at Green Galaxy choose to never underestimate the power that contribution can have; not just on the people and the world around us, but on our individual selves as well. Contribution can come in many shapes and sizes.  Sometimes it can be the giving of our time or our talents; sometimes it is a financial gift or a random act of kindness; sometimes it’s just lending an ear or a helping hand to a friend and sometimes it’s learning to live a little greener.  Whatever form it takes, contribution is always a win/win.

There’s power in giving.  Today the term “giving-back” is used often when someone makes a contribution.  We find that phrasing quite fitting because when contributions are made from a genuine heart, it is impossible not to be hit by the seemingly boomerang-like effect.  When we give, there is always a reciprocal motion, a flow-back.  It feels great to have been a part of someone else’s blessing.  It is indescribable the feeling of being connected to the bigger-picture of what is going on in the world or in the life of another human being.

It is our genuine belief that success is not measured by what we have or accumulate…it is measured by what we give; and the spirit by which we give it.  True generosity comes from a heart that embraces abundance; a heart not bound by fear or lack.  When we give from a heart of abundance, the mindset that “there is always more where that came from,” we are truly able to bless one another.

What a shame it is to have much and keep it all for ourselves … we miss out on the joy of contributing to others and our planet and we lose sight of what is truly important.

We are aware that many people equate “having much” to finances.  However, our goal here is to encourage a more abundant thought process.  If contribution can take many forms including the giving of our gifts, talents and selves to one another, then we can eliminate all exceptions that we might create for ourselves when it comes to this topic.  We all have MUCH that we can give.  Financial restrictions should not be used as an excuse to miss-out on or opt-out of the joy of contribution.   We truly believe that if we all focused more of our attention outside of ourselves we would find that abundant thinking occurs much more naturally than we would expect.

“Live consciously” is how we choose to end our blog posts because sadly, most of us live zoned-out lives.  Sure, we are cordial to others whom we see daily but outside of simple formalities and tasks we really don’t connect.  We don’t purposefully connect with the “others” in our lives, with the natural world in which we live or even with ourselves a lot of the time.  Instead, we get on the treadmill of life and march determinately towards the finish line with events, projects, deadlines, schedules and all the outfits to match on our minds.  We don’t consciously stop and take it all in.  We don’t consciously slow down and look around or notice the world around us in our day to day routines.  We run on auto-pilot and are proud multi-taskers; sometimes even when we ought to be focused on the task at hand, like … oh idunno, driving maybe?

Sadly the biggest loss of all is that we miss out on many of life’s blessings because we are too busy, too cluttered and perhaps a little too self-centered to notice them.  See, the game of life is not about who has accumulated the most at the end.  It is what we give that resonates.  At the end of it all, it is the lives that were made better because we were here that have the greatest impact on our hearts and souls.

Is the earth a better place because of how we cared for it?  Did we do our part in its preservation and protection for the sake of generations to come?  That too is contribution.  In our busy-ness we accidentally/on purpose neglect doing the “right” thing as far as the environment goes.

We may have various opinions about how much longer our planet will be around.  However, we all have some friends (not us of course) who are still convinced that they can use those opinions as a justification for our wasteful habits.

Look, the reality is, most of us don’t “consciously” choose to ravage our green spaces or deplete the earth’s resources … but the truth is we can and should make more “conscious” choices daily.  Let’s at least ravage and deplete less than we did yesterday.  We can choose to preserve.  We can choose to shop wisely and thus create change in the supply chain.  We can choose to be educated and engaged.  With one swift, treadmill-trained step at a time we truly can create a large amount of change in a very short period of time.

We believe that preservation of what we have been given is a powerful act of contribution to the next generation.  What a powerful gift to leave our children and grandchildren … the knowledge that they can change what they get, by changing what they give.  It’s time for show and tell guys and gals … lets lead by example and show and tell our children how much we can contribute to the world we are going to be leaving for them to do their own abundant lives in.

Until next time … live consciously!

Great Expectations!!!

Hello Green Galaxy Guys and Gals!

We can’t believe it has been three months since our last blog post. It seems we have neglected our promise to keep you abreast of the goings-on here in our Green Galaxy. Time flies when you are having fun!!! No excuses though. We WILL do better.

2010 thus far has been a year of much transition. Not to bore you with the hum drum details, suffice it to say that we have emerged stronger and “fitter” than ever. We say “fitter” because ultimately we have overcome obstacles, climbed seemingly impossible mountains and have shed some weight and built some muscle along the way. From this vantage point we are well-poised to take on the next phase of our vision. How exciting is that!?!?

Today we want to talk to you about having a great expectation perspective.

Sometimes in the midst of challenging times or when faced with seemingly overwhelming obstacles we can lose sight of our goals. If you are like us, when we can’t remember our reasons why, we can begin to wonder if we are even on the right path anymore. We can get so caught up in the day-to-day that we don’t even know if we’ve made any forward progress. Our goals can sometimes take a back seat to the monotonous tasks that have to be completed and before we know it we are tired AND uninspired.

It takes stepping off of the battlefield sometimes to realize how far we’ve actually come, to see how much we’ve grown and to take hold of the bigger picture again. From higher ground we can catch a glimpse of where we were, where we are now and where we are going.

That is exactly what has happened for us over the past six weeks and it is the reason why we are so excited about what’s to come. In September, on a leadership development seminar in sunny San Francisco we reconnected with our great expectations (our dreams, visions and goals). That in and of itself is inspiring but there’s more. Being away from it all for a few days gave us a fresh perspective. We literally climbed to death-defying heights and took the leap out into the great unknown … and lived. How empowering to physically overcome such a challenge; but more empowering was the realization that we are definitely fully equipped just as we are to make all of our dreams a reality.

The ability to refocus on the dream brings renewed energy and all of a sudden we are inspired again. Everyone take a deep breath in … now exhale … aaaaaahhhh! Things are looking good. It’s a simple thing but it changes the game in every way.

Yes, coming back to the everyday thrust us right back in to the proverbial “battle” but we realize that we have all the right tools to be victorious in it. We’ve learned the importance of staying focused on the dream not on the details. If attaining our goals or our great expectations is our deepest commitment then the details will be worked out along the way. Forward movement with the right focus WILL produce the desired results.

THAT, our beloved GGGs is inevitable…and that is all for this week.
There is so much more to share but until our next installment … live consciously!!!

Turning on the Green Light

Hey Green Galaxy Guys and Gals,

Welcome to the first installment of our blog.

There have been many things on our minds over the past several months but we seem to have had very little time to express them. 2010 has been a very busy year for us so far. Nonetheless, it is our goal to interact with you a little more regularly about all the exciting things happening within the company. We hope to hear from YOU as well so feel free to connect with us and share your thoughts, questions and any random green fact you’d like to share … either here, or on our facebook fan page .

We have had an exciting development this month on the ink side of our business. As you may know, we are very committed to providing and using environmentally safe screen printing inks. This is why we print over 90% of the garments that come through our shop with our world class water based ink. The remaining 10% of the garments we print have been printed with the heavy, plastic (plastisol) inks used in mainstream screen printing. However, at Green Galaxy, even when forced to use the plastic inks we have tried to ensure that we could find the least offensive products available on the market. We are always looking for new ways to improve. So, we’ve been using Phthalate-free plastisol inks on jobs when water based ink could not be used.

So, what is the exciting news? Well, here it is … we have recently discovered a plastisol ink that is both phthalate-free and PVC-free. Ta-da!!!! Ok, so perhaps this news doesn’t exactly send tingles up and down your spine like it does for us; but hopefully it makes you glad to know that there really are companies that truly care about their environmental foot print.

This new development means we’ve made yet another step in the right direction and we all should be excited about that. Nothing changes unless WE change, right? So every small step that each of us makes in the right direction means we’re that much closer to a better reality. Having this new ink means that when we can’t use our water based ink, we can choose an equally safe plastisol ink guilt-free; and to us, that’s a big deal. Providing quality product to our customers will no longer cause us to sacrifice our environmental integrity.

Here at Green Galaxy we believe that green is a lifestyle choice. We are not perfect but we do try to grow every day and hopefully we inspire others to follow suit. Let’s face it, we know it takes time to transition away from old habits, and sometimes the whole world seems to fight against us. However, it helps to remember that every little bit counts. It is our collective “little bits” that cause change.

The other day someone on our facebook friend’s list posted a video that we think you might find interesting. We posted it on our fan-page, but for those of you who didn’t see it, here’s the link … http://www.storyofstuff.org/ (click on the bottled water tab). We’d love to hear your thoughts so please feel free to comment.

That’s it for this week.
Until our next installment … live consciously!!
